Gravestone of Maharani Jindan Kaur

In 2006 while removing debris at the Kensal Green Cemetery the Marble Gravestone of Maharani Jindan Kaur was found.

She had died in 1863 and her son Maharajah Duleep Singh had arranged for her body to be temporarily housed in the catacombs as cremation was illegal in Britain at the time.

In the spring of 1864 the Maharanis casket was shipped to India and the smashed stone was left under debris for 140 years until it was discovered in 2006.

The gravestone was restored and unveiled at the Museum on 12th March 2008.
