Axe

This early nineteenth century North Indian axe is probably from Lahore and possibly belonged to Maharajah Ranjit Singh. This was acquired in 1955 from Lord Hardinge of Penshurst, the last Governor General of the East India Company. The blade is decorated with silver with a band of gold koftgari beside the edge. The finial and washer are made of copper and the shaft is copper alloy.
