Archive Letter
This interesting example is from a collection of Richard Baird Smith's letters. Richard Baird Smith (1794-1861) was an engineer who served with the British army. He was involved in the first and second Anglo Sikh wars.
The letter to his father dated 12th January 1849 states "we attack the Sikhs tomorrow". This was written of the eve of the Battle of Chillianwallah. Also included in this letter is an illustration of attack plans for the battle. Baird Smith was later Chief Engineer during the Siege of Dehli in 1857.
