Battle of Mukdi
18 December 1845
After a full day's march, a British contingent numbering some 12000 men, were attacked by a strong, probing Sikh force of 10000 regular cavalry and 2500 infantry. With dusk fast approaching, there followed a short but fierce battle during which the British would suffer high casualties while the Sikhs would lose a large proportion of their artillery.
As darkness fell, the Sikh army withdrew under the threat of a larger British regiment and the gallant charge of the British Third Light Dragoons.
